About Diwali

Diwali is the major festival in India, Worldwide people are celebrating this festival. Diwali is also called Deepavali. The Deepavali festival is celebrated on the 15th day of Kartika month. It is approached 20 days after Dussehra or Navarathri 9th day festival. On the day of the Diwali festival in the evening time Lakshmi puja and lord Ganesh puja can be performed, it is known as Diwali puja. Goddess Lakshmi is the symbol of wealth. The festival of Diwali reminds the sweets, crackers, lighting diyas, etc. People will celebrate this festival with joy and happiness. This festival is celebrated for five days. The first day is Dhanteras, second day Naraka Chaturdashi, third day Diwali, fourth day Govardhana puja and fifth day Bhai dhooj festivals should be performed.

Celebration of Diwali

Diwali the festival of lights falls on Saturday, 4th November 2021.

It is celebrated in late Ashwin (September– October) and ends in early Kartika (October – November). The celebration lasts for 5 days, an event marking the beginning of Karthika Masam which is auspicious for performing pujas and rituals.

The season is defined for its festivity. During the days of Diwali, every house will be adorned with lamps or diyas. Relatives and friends exchange sweets and families in the united tone pray for happiness and prosperity. Dining together and having fun with fireworks, the festival has everything that keeps devotees waiting for the date.

The festival is celebrated to cherish the victory of good over evil. After defeating the demon king Ravana, Lord Rama returned to his kingdom Ayodhya completing 14 years of exile. To welcome their king, citizens or Ayodhya-vases decorated streets and their homes with lamps or diya's. For reminiscing of his victorious return, every year devotees celebrate Diwali. A lighted lamp is the universal icon of this season.

This occasion is also associated with the birth of Lakshmi, Goddess of wealth and prosperity who came to existence after Samudra mantanam. To celebrate her birth and satisfy her, devotees perform Lakshmi puja which is supposed to bring about prosperity and wealth.

All stories connect to a single thread, the ultimate victory of good over evil. Diya's or lighted lamps signify hope, the eradication of materialistic darkness and the implementation of dharma or truth through enlightenment.
